SacHacks

Design. Code. Launch.
Project Overview
SacHacks is the first major intercollegiate hackathon in the Sacramento, California area. Our passion is to cultivate the untapped potential of those in Sac by providing them with the opportunity to launch their ideas in a public venue. We provide the place, you bring your ideas, and we have a friendly competition between all creative coders to launch their ideas into action during a 24-hour hackathon.

Product Thinking:
What is the human problem being solved?
— Providing students in the Sacramento, California Area with a unified tech presence and equal opportunity.

How do you know it’s a real human problem?
— There has never been a major intercollegiate hackathon in the Sacramento region. Many students feel disconnected from the large tech presence in the Silicon Valley.

Why does the business care about this?
— By building the first major intercollegiate hackathon in the Sacramento, California area, we can make a difference in our own community.
My Role
Designer
April 2019 — Present

Design Team: Briana Omori, Alexandra Martínez, Erica Lee, Russ Grebeniouk, Margot Uchicua, Yong Chong

Responsibilities + Impact:
Research and evaluate existing user experiences to identify and develop solutions that improve current and new problems.

Work collaboratively with other designers to ensure a consistent, integrated brand perception and user-experience.

Take broad, conceptual ideas and turn them into something useful and valuable for our potential hackers.
Existing Pattern Libraries
After joining SacHacks, I immediately began working within the existing pattern libraries. My primary goal was to understand and evaluate the current design system and look to improve upon it. Moreover, to ensure brand consistency across multiple facets of my own work I created these visuals below.

What's Next?
Currently in the process of taking conceptual ideas and turning them into potential visual designs for our upcoming hackathon. As we continue to prepare, it will be important to reflect on the question: 'how might we continue to re-imagine the future of hackathons in the Sacramento, California area'? Stay tuned!
